Lockjaw is an extraordinary creation born from an old saw and a wooden peel. Its foundation lies in the wooden peel, which, when transformed into a single-string guitar, produces a truly distinctive tone. This instrument showcases the bridge of the single-string bass guitar, positioned on the saw blade. The resulting vibrations are then transmitted through springs to a bendir, a traditional frame drum, further enriching the sonic experience.
To enhance the instrument’s versatility, we have incorporated wooden bars that work as sympathetic strings onto the saw blade. Whether played with fingers, a pick, or a bow, Lockjaw offers a range of expressive possibilities.
*Due to the rusty state of the hand saw used in its construction, we named our instrument “Lockjaw” in reference to the tetanus disease.
