The brainchild of DustBowl, the Centaur boasts ten strings – eight guitar strings and two bass strings – all connected to a modified floor tom drum.
The body of the instrument features a wooden soundboard on one side and a traditional drum skin on the other, allowing for a perfect blend of percussion and stringed instrument sounds. The first eight strings are divided into pairs, with each pair tuned to produce a unique and distinctive sound. The low string in each pair is tuned an octave down, resulting in a deeper, richer tone that complements the higher notes of the instrument.
What sets the Centaur apart from other instruments is the use of springs to connect the low strings to the drum skin through the soundhole. This innovative design creates a truly unique timbre, blending the sounds of the drum skin and the soundboard with the resonance of the springs. The result is a powerful and dynamic sound.
